While I was in Hobby Lobby after Christmas I had the idea to pick up some uni-season things to use for upcoming holiday decorations around the house and outside.
The first two things that came to mind were Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras. Okay. I snagged a number of boxes of medium-sized plain ball ornaments in shiny and satin red, pink, green, purple and gold. Picked up a couple of packages of sparkly "bow-type" decorations, some fat garland covered in red sequins, along with a few other goodies. I left the store with their largest bag filled to overflowing and spent less than $20. The 18-count boxes of ball ornaments were marked down to 49 cents. What a deal!
Home again, home again, jigetty-jog and off to my studio to create...for Valentine's Day.
I used all the red and pink ornaments, all the sequined garland, some funky beaded garland, the sparkly bows, a couple of sprays of roses and carnations and some heart picks from Dollar tree, and a wire frame and my masterpiece was done.
All said and done, the whole shebang probably came to about $8 and I am very happy with the results.
Now, the remaining green, gold and purple ornaments will have to wait for next Mardi Gras because I haven't had the time or inspiration to turn them into something special for that event.
But as Scarlett O'Hara said, "After all...tomorrow is another day."
