DIY Automatic Slow Release Plant Feeder

I love plants, and flowers of any kind, really! What I don't like is leaving home for a few days only to discover that one of my plants has died. It's happened quite a few times, and for me, it's devistating. I've tried to have someone come over and water them for me, but I really don't like to ask. So, I came up with a solution, and it's free! I made my own automatic slow release plant feeder, and you can too!
You will need some sort of bottle with a screw on lid. I love the look of a glass wine bottle, but you can totally use a plastic bottle. You will also need a hammer and nail.
Screw the lid onto your bottle and nail 4 holes in the top.
Fill the bottle with water, screw the cap on tightly, and push it cap side down into the soil of your plant.
The water will release when your plant gets dry, making sure not to soak it or over water! This idea has saved quite a few of my plants over the last few months while we have traveled, and that makes me super happy! No more worrying about plants dying! I'm going to use the same method using old milk jugs for my outdoor plants once it gets warm enough for them here in Kentucky! I’ve tried something like this but when you push it into the soil the soil gets into the holes and clogs it so the water doesn’t drain into the plant. Did you have any problems?

My grandma use to do this when I was a little girl, and that is a looooong time ago. :)
