Exterior Trim Adds Curb Appeal

When I received paint from 'Front Door Paint' to update my front door, my husband took it one step farther and gave the Exterior Trim and update too. Using all reclaimed wood, my husband created some amazing trim for our front door. The finished result was some much needed Curb Appeal!
Years ago, when we had the front door of our 100+ year-old home replaced, the contractor added a not-very-pretty siding filler over the space at the top of the door. We lived with it for years - life and raising a family can really slow down the DIY home improvements!
The trim around the door was small, understated, and with the peeling paint and insignificant door color there wasn't much Curb Appeal going on here.
My hubby pulled all that ugly siding filler over the door out - to find empty stud space. Seriously. No wonder cold air poured in around the door.
Packed that space full of Insulation.
And created wood siding to match the existing siding.
Wide Trim was added...
And my hubby created this gorgeous detail for the top.
I love the after. The black is bolder and goes well with the style of our house. Now to get the porch redone and some new siding on the whole place!
More details can be seen on the blog!

This trim is beautiful... .and your pictures were great to see - I want to make a top piece similar to that for my new trim. Do you know more details about how he made it? What type wood did he use? What were the dimensions for the piece he crafted at the top? Was that a 4x6? ... or was this made from multiple pieces? What How did he go about making it? Is there a router bit to do that whole detail, or did he make these cuts on the table saw? Hoping to learn more about this! Thanks so much.
