Fancy Farmhouse Tall Chest for The
by

This tasty slice of iced cake for the contest sponsored by D. Lawless Hardware was quite a boring biscuit beforehand. I painted it a pleasant pink, lightly distressed it then topcoated it with clear and dark waxes to really epitomize an old farmhouse's well-loved furniture treasure.
I decoupaged the drawer fronts with true vintage wallpaper. Brittle, dull, flat finish, no paste, rolled and stuffed in a drawer for half a century wallpaper. I roughed the edges to authenticate the aged effect. Decoupaged Burlap ribbon covers the bottom drawer faces. I love the contrast of frilly vs rustic. The top hardware is antique coke glass green knobs and the bottom has ornate satin nickel pulls.
The top of the chest is sanded down to bare wood. Then I slathered on some hemp oil to draw out the gorgeous wood tones and grain. The raw wood complements the burlap.
To further blend the top and bottom portions, I attached wood appliques and painted them a coordinating soft mint.
For a final cherry on the top of this iced furniture cake, I added a porcelain rose double hook to the side of the chest. It is a convenient catch-all for anything that can hang keeping floors a bit tidier.
