A $5 garage sale twin bed and a tossed out table top were the perfect pair to create this cute bench.

Starting with the bottom rail I had to decide how wide the seat should be. After measureing twice I plunged in and made the cuts. It is always a hold your breath moment.

I attached with 3 in wood screws and then started to frame in the seat.

Once the frame was sturdy I cut the tabletop to fit. Trickier than I thought so spent more time measureing to get it right.

Yes, this table top was set out for the trash. Once cut, I had to disassemble the front of the frame to fit the seat inside the rails.

A coat of black gloss paint and the stitching magic from my wife and a front porch conversation piece is born.

Thanks I have now made and sold 5 benches. Once made they fly out within a week.

I bought my son this very same style bed when he was a toddler. He is still using it in his own home 30 years later. These beds were made out of hardwoods. His bed is solid mahogany. Sure beats most stuff on the market today. I just hate seeing people use these old beds for crafts. Here in the Southeast, this bench would start to rot away in no time. I would suggest to anyone living in this area to only use it indoors.

Making this bench is a great way to save a memory in a functional way. It can be used in a hallway or mud room or as a reading nook in a child’s room. I sold this the moment I posted it on line and they are using it in their front entry way. You are right, this was not made for the outdoors....
