Vanity

Is it fair to say we women love the idea of romance and that sitting in front of a vanity making ourselves pretty adds to that feeling? Do you imagine (as they so often show on tv) our man coming up from behind and giving us a kiss on the neck or surprising us with a necklace which he places around our neck. Why does sitting at a vanity to get ready seem so much more appealing than standing in the bathroom in front of the big mirror?
This lovely piece I purchased from a wonderful lady here in Cornwall that has a Face Book page where she sells household items she no longer has use or room for. I have purchased several nice pieces from her. Most of these pieces I still have stashed away waiting for my paint brush but this one I didn’t wait very long at all to get my hands on.
There is something special about taking a piece of furniture and making it beautiful for a woman that will be using it to make herself beautiful. I decided to leave some of the wood unpainted but not too much as I wanted a softness to the look. I sanded and re-stained just the two tops above the drawers, finishing off with satin varathane.
I needed to add a little something to this one so I painted the drawers a special colour to jazz it up a bit. ASCP Aubusson was used in the drawers and then a clear wax was added. What a nice surprise when you open the drawers and find a splash of colour.
In order to dress up the vanity even more I bought new pulls for the drawers. Glass pulls add the jewellery and sparkle to enhance the romance and nostalgic feel I was looking for.
The exterior was paint in ASCP Old Ochre, a coat of clear wax and then a light distressing provided the slightly worn and aged look to bring all the elements together.
The perfect place to style your hair, apply your make-up and wait for that little kiss from your special person.http://redwindstudio.ca/store/2014/02/12/vanity/

@Joyce Browne-odonnell I prefer chalk style paint. This particular vanity was done in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and the colour used was Old Ochre with a clear wax finish
