Easy
We had purchased an iron bed with a slatted headboard that was just terribly uncomfortable to lean back on. See below how I created a DIY padded headboard and added it to the existing bed!
The first step was to choose a fabric. I chose this herringbone patterned fabric to match our existing bedding.
Measure your headboard and cut a piece of 1/4" plywood to size. Using spray adhesive, attach a piece of foam padding to the wood. I used a twin size mattress pad -- much cheaper than a piece of foam!
Using a staple gun, cover the foam and wood with batting.
Here are the layers you should have before stapling.
Then, cover that entire piece with fabric stapling around the edges.
Dry fit your headboard before attaching to make sure it still fits.
I used these pipe clamps to attach it to the railings of our existing bed. Also, I cut a piece of shelf liner to place in between the clamp and the rail so it wouldn't scratch it.
Here's the finished product!
