Yellow End Table Re-do (and How I Cheated)

Found $4 end tables at a second-hand store. Wanted a pop of yellow color, but I didn't have any stain to make it look distressed and vintage. So I found a little cheat to accent the edges of my spray painted tables.
I keep seeing re-do pieces with lots of color and that are even spray painted . . . so I wanted to try a flea market flip of my own. I wanted to furniture re-do a little table or something. And I have to say I cheated a little on making it look worn and distressed.
My blue and yellow living room needed cheap, but colorful end tables, to go with my $2 Pillows. I am currently renting my home and do NOT want to pay a lot to decorate with stuff I'll just have to move soon anyway.
I got these end tables at a second-hand store called Deseret Industries for $4 each.
And here's the secret to my cheat. An ordinary brown marker . . .
