Another planter project to share! This one was a gift for my mom on Mother's Day and I love how it turned out!
Here are the abbreviated instructions for how I built this planter, for full details and downloadable plans, please visit my blog at the link at the bottom of this post.

To start, I cut and beveled the 2x4 boards to create the planter bottom and attached the boards together using wood glue and pocket hole screws.
I then cut the boards to build the front and back panels. For the sides, I used 1x6 and 1x4 redwood fence boards, cutting the at the proper lengths and miters.

Here is a picture of the completed front panel. The back panel is identical.
I attached the front and back panels to the bottom panel using wood glue and exterior wood screws.
Next, I built the two side panels using redwood 1x6 and 1x4 fence boards. The 1x4 top boards was beveled as well. I attached these side panels to the planter base and front and back boards using wood glue and wood screws. You can see the side panels in this pic:
I then cut the 2x4 boards for the feet and attached those using wood glue and wood screws.
Lastly, I cut the 1x2 boards with the proper length and miter and attached those to the top of the planter as the trim boards. These were attached with wood glue and brad nails.
I filled all holes with wood filler and sanded the planter. I then used different colored stains and paint to create the multi colored design for the planter. Once the paint and stain was completely dry, I coated the planter in three coats of exterior polyurethane.

It's Beautiful. My momma would love this but she lives in an independent living area where she can have smaller containers. I was wondering if you could do a project like this only smaller? The building manager would have a cow if i made her something this big. Just a Question, that's all. Keep on Building California girl, from a West Virginia girl.

Absolutely love this planter! If I had the skills I would do it. Did you line the inside or do anything to keep the water and dirt from seeping out?
