Are you fortunate to have a room in your home dedicated to crafting?? What essentials do you need in your creative space? Personally storage comes up high on my list along with a space which is very user friendly. When designing my small creative space I have thought about the height of my desk, being able to utiliise the space underneath the desk, light sources plus the kitchen triangle! So what do I mean by that? My personal triangle for the craft room is my ironing board, sewing machine and photography space. But back to the all important thrifty storage...

I love sideboards, they are so versatile and so easy to update. Find a tin of chalk paint or fusion mineral paint and have fun. I have used tins of various greys and azure fusion mineral paint to create an ombre effect. It is worth spending time sanding and cleaning the sideboard before applying the paint to ensure a good adhesion. Find out how I updated my craft room sideboard here.

Add fun storage to your craft walls - shelves don't need to be made from planks of wood. How about wine bottle crates? Former drawers made into shelves? Or printer's tray ? Jam jars are great for storing small items, I have my buttons color coded!

If you love the idea of repurposing drawers as shelves check out my how to instructions here. I have lined the drawers with a wall paper sample collected from a DIY store, using a thin layer of PVA glue, adding a shelf mid height prior to screwing the unit to the wall (I predrilled holes through the back of the drawer unit, marked on the wall and then used raw plugs in the wall to ensure a safe fastening).

Or update baskets from the thrift store with chalk paint spray and fun pompoms (read how I updated my basket). The basket is sprayed with chalk paint spray, this is super quick easy update. Be careful to build up thin layers of paint (if you spray too thick a layer of paint you will get drips).

My sewing room storage cost less than $50.
