A Salute to the Garden Bike
When garage sale cruising there are quirky things that make you pause. This vintage beat up bicycle got my attention. It was $10 with no tires…no seat…no problem. With Memorial Day and July 4th fast approaching, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
To get that Red, White and Blue going I dug through our material boxes and found an old red jacket, an old blue pillowcase and an old sheet with red and blue stars.
I cut the cloth into 2-3” strips and wound it around the spokes. I started to tie the ends together but found securing them with the glue gun worked better.
For the missing seat I taped three flags together at different heights and placed in the hole.
I attached a metal basket to the handlebars with wire and filled it with artificial flowers that were inserted into styrofoam.
For the bike handle I used a balloon anchor. I removed the base from it and glued the sparkly parts into the end of the handle.
The bike was was a fun easy project that can be completed in a couple of hours. It now stands proudly in our yard and gets an occasional salute.
