Did you know that you can instantly turn any room into a romantic getaway location? All you need is a DIY heart garland!

A hanging heart garland like this is easy and fun to make, so it’s great for both sewing beginners experienced veterans. And since it doesn’t take long to make, it’s great for those sudden romantic surprises for your significant other!

But it’s not just for romantic purposes, it can also be used as a normal room decoration to fill that empty wall in your room.

If you wanted a versatile and cute decorative piece, this garland is just what you have been looking for. Now keep reading to learn how to make it.

Prepare the pattern

Download our free heart garland pattern and print it out in full size. Cut out the parts and throw away the excess paper.

Cut out the fabric

Fold the fabric in half and place the pattern pieces on it. Make sure to align the longest edge of the large pattern piece with the fold of the fabric.

Cut the fabric through both layers.

Form the hearts

Transfer the markings from the large pattern piece onto the fabric. Cut out the strips from the folded fabric piece.

Take the heart-shaped fabric pieces and without unfolding them, staple each one diagonally at the corner between the short curved edge and the long straight edge. Unfold the hearts.

Staple each strip at the fold.

Leave three strips aside, one from each length.

Form the hollow hearts and the center heart

Take one strip and fold it outward without pressing it. Staple the two loose ends together. You will get a hollow heart shape.

Repeat the same with the remaining strips.

To form the center heart shape, take the three strips you left aside earlier. Form three hollow hearts so that they’re inside each other and staple them together at their loose ends.

Finish the heart garland

Cut small holes from each side of each heart, close to the top. Run a thread through those holes to arrange the garland.

You can set the order as you’d like, just keep the center heart in the middle.
