Recycle those pretty, green bottles into fun St. Patrick's Day decor! I decorate my home every St. Patrick's Day in honor of the memory of my beloved mother-in-law, who was 100% Irish.
I washed and dried three empty olive oil bottles of varying heights, and removed the label adhesive residue with acetone. An alternative could be wine bottles.

I gathered the supplies to make the bottles into festive, whimsical St. Patrick's Day decor. Ribbons in colors of the flag of Ireland, St. Patrick's Day themed stickers, and the bottles (only 2 pictured here). You will also need a hot glue gun, or glue dots and sharp scissors to cut the ribbons into a clean edge.
I gathered burlap, wire-edged ribbon, and ribbons in the colors of the flag of Ireland, along with seasonal stickers. Hot glue and/or glue dots and sharp-edged pair of scissors to ensure clean cuts on the ribbon ends will be needed. If you want to use your bottles for candle holders - you will also need some candles.
Wrap the burlap ribbon around a bottle, and fold the end of one side. Glue in place onto the bottle. Folding ensures no sharp edges from the wire.
One bottle has the burlap ribbon on its top, another in the middle. There are no rules, here!
Wrap each color of ribbon around the bottle neck, and use a drop of hot glue to hold in place. Have fun with the process and vary the length of each ribbon. I chose to make each bottle different.
You may want to use your decorative bottles as candle holders. Use a glue dot, or hot glue on the end of a candle, and place it in the bottles, if desired, to hold them into place. I found "drip-less" candles, although I would use them for unlit decor. If they are too wide for the bottles, you can shave the sides carefully with a vegetable peeler or blunt butter knife. You can peel off dried wax from the ribbons if the wax drips. **Never leave burning candles unattended.
On an end table...as unlit decor....
Embellish the bottles with the festive stickers, if desired. I used hot glue on the sticker backs so they were firmly adhered to the ribbons. The bottles can be displayed wherever you want to have a cheerful decoration - alone or in groups.
As a centerpiece...
On open shelving....sans candles
At the prep table....
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hope you enjoyed this practical, easy, inexpensive project.

I know this was posted a couple years ago, but I just wanted tadd a comment. 1st- this are adorable ( and I love the lol lounging leprechaun) 2nd- these would look great on a window sill, just imagine the sunlight coming thru on a cold March afternoon! 3rd- my last comment is actually a oil fyi - if you put a little bit of craft glue on your fingertip, then drag the cut end of you ribbon thru it. Then let it dry, the glue will keep the edge from fraying. Luck o' the Irish be with you!!!
