Are you a cat person? Then you have also fallen under their spell and love pleasing them, the sly masters. One way you can make their life even better is to give them a fancy bed. But not just any bed, a hammock!

This cat hammock will let your kitty feel like a real king of the jungle, looking at everything from above, in a comfy bed. Plus, you’ll finally get them out of that old box they consider a queen-size bed.

You can sew this hammock fast and easily, just follow this quick tutorial we have prepared for you.

Cut the fabric

You will need two fabric pieces measuring 18 x 18 inches in size for the hammock base.

For the hanging loops, you will need two fabric straps measuring 3 x 40 inches each.

Start sewing the hammock

Set the two base fabric pieces onto each other with their right sides in and pin them. Using a quarter-inch seam allowance, sew two parallel sides of the base. Turn the fabric inside out and press it. Topstitch the two stitched edges.

Fold the strap in half so that the long edges align and press it. Unfold and repeat, this time folding each long edge to the crease in the middle. Press it.

Fold again just like the first time and press one more time.

Repeat the steps with the second strap.

Form the hammock

Mark the center of both straps and the raw edges of the base.

Place the base edge into the strap fold. Match the markings. Pin the two together. Repeat with the second strap and the opposite edge of the base.

Sew along each strap's inner edge. If your cat is a chonk boi, stitch an X mark onto the corners of the base for extra strength.

Finish the cat hammock

Set a swivel clamp over one of the straps. Fold the raw edge of the strap in and fold the strap end over the swivel. Pin it and sew it in place with a couple of stitches back and forth.

Repeat with the remaining straps. All hooks must face the same way. Make sure that each swivel clamp sits at an equal distance from the hammock base.

The cat hammock is complete!

We hope your cat will love the new bed they’ll get. As for you, take a look at our other projects at HelloSewing and make something for yourself as well! Enjoy your sewing sessions!

Is that your Maine Coon Kitten? OMG how beautiful and what a sweet look. I have seen cat hammocks of all kinds that attach under chairs and tables etc. those instructions showed how to attach. I checked your blog and still nothing so I checked the comments and there were a few that asked the same question with no answer. Are your hammock made for a cage or under a table or where??? Thank you for taking the time to answer.

It's a nice project and well done, but you need to show how it's attached and to what. None of your pictures show the hooks actually hooked to anything. Thanks for sharing, though. :-)
