Matching Dog Bed and Quilt
3 Materials
I wanted to make a nice bed and quilt for my dog's kennel that matched the living room decor better than some of the ones that I saw in the store. I picked up a cheap $10 bed in the sale section of Home Sense and some cute flannel and polyester fabric ( tough to find 100% cotton these days!) from the local fabric shop!
I knew the flannel would be the front of the cushion since it was soft and cuddly. It was a simple job to overlay a few layers of flannel onto both sides of the purchased cushion and then sew up the edges. I then 'quilted' the same pattern from the original cushion by hand through the fabric and cushion.
Once the flannel work was done, I used the printed polyester fabric as the backing to the cushion bringing it up on the flannel side to trim the cushion.
Onto the quilt! I didn't use any quilt batting because I didn't want the blanket to be too heavy or full. I layered a few pieces of flannel and the printed fabric to the appropriate size which would be about 24" x 36" for my little guy! I did a simple quilt pattern going diagonal one way and then the other. Once the quilting was complete I brought the edges of the printed fabric to the flannel side by about 1.5" and sewed the trim.
As you can see above, Chico likes his bedding even if there is pink in the print!

Thanks - it's 2018 and your quilt is still inspiring. I was wondering what batting to put in my dog quilts and VOILA. You gave the best answer. Batting always roams around after laundering - fabric - perfect! Thanks.
