One of my favorite things to do is procraftinate. For this project I grabbed an old lampshade, and my craft bag and started to brainstorm. I came up with this cute fall basket...
I first cut a cardboard circle to fit the top of the lampshade (since it would be flipped upside down as a basket).
I started wrapping the shade in two different colors of twine, starting from the bottom. I decided to make each "stripe" different widths just to keep it visually interesting. I used hot glue at the beginning and end of each color change to keep it in place.
I cut this cute owl ribbon (leftover from last year) in to strips so I could attach the vertically around the top of the lampshade (again, using hot glue). I then added a few more stripes of twine to hide any ragged edges.
I added jute cord around the very bottom of the shade, around the top and bottom of where the owl ribbon is and the top of the basket, to give it a cleaner look. I also used this to add handles.
Finished basket!
I plan to add something to the inside but I have decided what yet.
Suggested materials:
  • Old lampshade, jute cord, colored twine, ribbon, hot glue.   (I had all of this leftover from other projects.)
