One Failed Craft Project, Now a Beautiful Rope Christmas Tree
Last year I tried wrapping green embroidery floss to a foam tree. The floss was to dry and then be removed from the foam. The embroidery Floss was to dry hard and be a free sending green tree. Well it failed big time. So this year I wrapped thick rope gluing as I wrapped to the foam tree,
I started at the top, which was the most difficult wrapping. Going down the tree was the easy part.
Wrapping the top and holding the rope and craft glue in place was the hardest part of the rope wrapping. I needed to allow the glue to set before moving onto the tree base wrapping.
I started from the outside of the base and wrapped into the circle towards the center. The out edge was a little hard till the glue set. Once all was wrapped and glued and put the tree down on wax paper to dry.
I used green craft paint which I watered down, This allowed the rope to soak in the paint, adding a textured look. The rope absorbs the paint slightly different because the robe is textured.
I had a container of these sliver gems. They were originally for clothing decoration. Because they could be pushed into the rope and foam tree they were prefect for this project.
So I had a lot of these Blue beads. I had planned to used them for curtain tie backs. But once again I didn't and saved them since they were on sale. So For this project they worked well. I just hot glued them every inch or so and wrapped the beads around the tree. I think they add a vintage look.
Here you can see the gems and beads close up. I started with the silver stars, then added pink colored gem beads.
Since I had everything already this tree only cost my time. Not so shabby?
