How to Make a Lidded Primitive Pumpkin For Your Fall Decor
Today, I'm going to show you how to make a lidded primitive pumpkin. I had seen one I really liked but could not afford the price they were asking so I set out to make my own. Let's get started with this cute fall decor piece.
Tools and materials:
- Plastic pumpkin
- Chalk paint
- Craft paint
- Paintbrush
- Mod Podge
- Cinnamon
- Wood round
- Drill
- Rope
1. Paint with chalk paint
I bought my plastic pumpkin from Walmart, just the cheap candy-holding ones in the trick-or-treat area. I painted it with chalk paint. I didn't bother painting the inside.
2. Distress the pumpkin
Then I knew I wanted it to look distressed and a little rusty. I used a dry brush and some burnt umber craft paint and put it on the lines to make them stand out.
After I had gotten this done I decided to use some cinnamon too to make it look even more rusty. Just take some Mod Podge and put it in areas you want to look rusty and sprinkle cinnamon on top of that. Then shake the excess cinnamon off.
3. Paint and distress the round
I bought an 8" round from Walmart and painted that and distressed it too.
4. Drill a hole for the rope
Let both dry before drilling a hole for the rope. I placed a 2 x 4 below the lid so I didn't drill into my island. I drilled a hole in the top of the round to fit my jute through.
5. Tie the rope
I knotted the rope so it would stay. Then, take off the plastic handle and put on the lid. Easy peasy and you're done.
DIY primitive pumpkin
I love how this turned out. I have not decided if I am going to use it for candy or put some flowers. I think it turned out cute.
Looks good with my other white pumpkins. It looks so cute in my fall hutch.
