Faux Architectural Porch Piece

I love architectural salvage but it can be pricey. Why not recreate your own using scrap wood?!

I can not stress enough how important my scrap wood pile is. I keep all of my scrap wood and ive made so many projects for little to zero cost.

For this project I used a piece of pallet would for my base piece and plywood for the triangle pieces.

I used a ruler to draw my triangles on my plywood. I'm not the best at mathematics but being that this is a rustic looking piece, I don't think perfection is in order.

I used a chop saw and put it at a 45 degree angle for my cuts. Here's a tip....when you get that first triangle cut and place it on your board and it looks like the proper size, trace the rest of your triangles onto the plywood.

I was going to make this much longer but I decided on a trial run first. I'll definitely be making more.

I used a 1 inch paddle bit to make my holes in the triangles.

Its best to clamp your triangles down when boaring your holes. This will keep them from spinning.

I was going to drill a full circle all the way through but I liked the look that the bit left only going halfway.

Line everything up to be sure you like the layout. Then sand all your pieces.

I then painted the triangles.

I placed a quarter next to it so you could get an idea of how big the hole us.

When the paint was dry I hot glued the triangles to my board. Then when the glue was set I flipped it over and put a few small screws in to secure it properly.

I like how it looks like an old porch piece.
