I had seen a similar lantern but I wanted to make my own and REALLY make it my own.
I started by cleaning off the frames and the glass with rubbing alcohol. They had been sitting in a drawer for several years and gotten kind of ooky. Then I took the cardboard backing out and glued the glass to frame so it wouldn't rattle so much and they were cheap, I didn't want the glass to fall out.

My next step was to go through my crafting supplies and pick out the quotes I wanted to transfer to the panes of glass. I chose several of my favorite quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt and Helen Keller and proceeded to rub them onto the glass. There are no chemicals involved in this process, its not etching. These are rub on transfers I got at Hobby Lobby on sale a few years ago for $.99 that I will occasionally put on real candles as well.
So after the transfers were done, I used E600 to glue the frames into a box shape. Previous posts I've read said that they used hot glue. I tried hot glue and it wasn't strong enough so....
After that was dry enough to move (3 hours) I turned it upside down and glued a square of black foam board on the bottom (also using the E6000) and let it all cure until this morning . I placed the lantern upside down with foam board weighted down with stones so the glue would stick. It was a little bowed when I took it out of the package and wouldn't lie flat.
I quite like my new little lantern and I hope you have an opportunity to make your own!

Suggested materials:
