You can easily create a customized oversized sign or personal artwork for your family. The best part, you can do this for free with reclaimed wood, some chalk and a cheap projector.
I started with a scrap piece of luon board I had leftover from another project. This will form the back board of your art work.
I then cut and sanded reclaimed fence boards and glued and screwed them onto the back board. I also took this opportunity to add hanging wire to the back. It's easier to do this before you complete the artwork.
We are big House of Blues Fans. We have always had an idea to have a big piece of art work that said "House of Bergs" instead. I found this graphic on Google Images and saved it to my computer.
Using a simple projector, (you will need to follow the directions of your projector to project the image) I projected the image onto the large board and traced the details in chalk. I had to improvise with changing "Blues" to "Bergs"
Now I began filling in the art. The predominant color is black. I used an acrylic black paint I purchased from Hobby Lobby.
I used acrylic paint for most of this project, and mixed a few colors to get the custom colors I wanted. I also used a Paint Pen in White to go over the entire piece and really help the entire picture to "pop"
We are so happy with the finished work. It took some patience with all the tracing, then filling in the works, but it was well worth the effort. The best part? It cost me absolutely nothing as I used products I already had on hand.
