I had an excess of embroidery hoops from a former project and some old jeans I saved for a quilt. Then I decided to put some of them together for use in my new craft room. They would look great to decorate the wall, but also organize.
First: a clock. I have made clocks with kits in the past to give as gifts for Christmas using CD's as the face, but that is another tutorial to come. I gathered some sewing notions, a clock kit and a large size embroidery hoop along with the old jeans. I cut a piece larger than the hoop. The excess denim could be cut off later.
I used the large buttons for the 12, 3, 6, and 9 positions on the clock and filled in the rest of the face with smaller buttons. The clock was attached according to the instructions. The denim needed a little support for the clock mechanism, so I also cut a piece of cardboard for the back as added depth for the mechanism and washers as well as a little support for the clock hands. It was not even as large as the hoop. I eye balled it as I went along. I will add a tutorial soon to show how to install a clock kit but you can read the instructions on the back of the kit, or go online to find more detailed instructions. I will show all 6 finished hoops at the end.
Second: a key holder. I used left over cup hooks and a medium wooden hoop this time. If you noticed, the clock was made from a plastic, more colorful hoop. This was to hold some indoor keys for our locked cabinets and paddle locks or electric mower key. After a nail and hammer started a small hole, the cup hooks were easy to install.
Third: a photo/note holder. Using a medium colored plastic hoop and left over colored miniature clothes pins I glued the pins to the outside loop. Clear drying Gorilla glue made this job easy too.
Fourth: a pin cushion. It was in the smallest wooden hoop. I cut the denim larger than the hoop as a double layer and added some quilt batting left over from another project. This makes a perfect pin cushion! I trimmed the excess cloth after it was done.
Fifth: tool pocket. I used the back pockets from the denim jeans. I decided to use a larger hoop than what is shown here. I wanted more space for more handy tools.

Sixth: a handy thread holder. I cut the tops off the colored golf tees, pushed them between the inner and outer hoop and used the clear drying Gorilla glue again. I keep golf tees on hand all the time for my loom knitting rings, so I had these handy.
And here you have it, all 6 embroidery hoops. The clock, key holder, handy tool holder, spools of thread holder, photos and notes hoop, and a pin cushion. These will go on my wall in my new craft room when we get it built someday soon.
I love having my most used tools and threads handy without digging in a drawer, but I think my favorite one is the clock. I took my time and really enjoyed this project.
I am not sure of the time, but I think 3 to 5 hours was spread out over several days. I recorded about $5 cost, but I had all this on hand so this project did not cost me anything but my time. It will save me time in the long run and what a cheerful decoration for my craft room.
