Door Hall Tree Made From a $5 Clearance Sale Door

Can't pass up a good deal? Me either! I love to walk through my local home improvement store to see what they have on clearance. One day we came across 2 doors that were on clearance (one was a little damaged - got it for $5 and another one was a custom fit door that didn't fit - got it for $17).
This is the door we got for $5. It was a little damaged on one side, but other than that it was in good condition. But what were we going to do with it? We didn't have a clue when we bought it, so it sat in our garage/workshop for a month. Then inspiration about a door hall tree?
We had a bunch of scraps from other project just lying around, so we started putting them together. My husband made a shelf at the top from two boards he glued together and cut at an angle. We glued a leftover piece of bead board paneling and molding onto the door to add some texture. My husband built a small bench to add some dimension. Then it was my turn to decide on how to paint this part! I chose to paint it to match the interior of our house, so it would look like a natural part of our house decor.
I painted the door the same color grey as our walls in our foyer. The bead board paneling and shelf had to be white to match the trim in our house. The bench had to be black to match our tile floor and carpet on the stairs.
The final step was to find the perfect mirror and hooks. We found black hooks with glass knobs on top in a clearance bin for $3! Exactly what I wanted!!! I bought the mirror for $15, so the total cost of our Door Hall Tree was $25! I plan to purchase two baskets to put under the bench. I just have to find the right ones! I love my new Door Hall Tree! It is the first thing you see when you walk through our front door, and it says "Welcome!"

Thanks! We have enjoyed it...we even made one for our daughter that we added a small table for a lamp. It is great right beside her apartment door, so she can turn on a light when she gets home at night.
