Which bushes should I plant as a fence?
I want to cover/disguise my neighbor's chair link fence on my side - which I assume would be cheaper than putting in my own new fence. What bushes or plants would provide fairly thick and quick cover - in Maryland?

Hi Zibby, whenever I'm looking for a good suggestion for my area I contact my locally owned nursery. They always point me in the best direction. Here's some more info from the University of Maryland too! https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/tree-and-shrub-selection
I agree, check with your local nursery. In the meantime, Here's a link with some ideas:

Bamboo or box woods
Hi! When we added shrubs for privacy we told the nursery what we needed them for, and they recommended planting them a certain distance apart and how many to plant for the area. Some plants grow faster and taller than others, so take that into consideration. Good luck!
Arborvitae Emerald green shrub
I agree with Rosalie in Maryland, I would go with Arborvitae.
it depends on your area I would go to a local nursery and ask their advise
arborvitae!
I would go to a nursery and ask and then you may be able to find them cheaper at Lowes or Home Depot. You'll want to ask or look on the label to see how far apart they need to be planted and measure your fence to see how many you need.
Ivy that climbs up it would work but it would also go on his side of the fence so keep that in mind
I would check with your local nursery or go to Home Depot, since they carry plants that will do well in your area. However we have planted arborvitae against the fence that surrounds our pool. Look great and it's a wall of privacy.
Virginia Creeper
Arbor Vitae will make a nice fence line for privacy.
Hello Zibby,
Maybe use a roller, otherwise your paint will drip and look messy from neighbours side!
Here are some great choices: https://homeguides.sfgate.com/shrubs-make-good-fence-50095.html
Blue berry would look nice and give you berries
Depending on how high the neighbour's fence is, even 'high bush' blueberries may not grow tall enough to hide it. Besides, they are not fast growing, inexpensive to purchase, and do not look attractive during the winter.
Podocarpus are great for privacy fencing
I ordered on Amazon the "patio paradise tan privacy fence" , attached with zip ties. Works great and less money and time than plan ting. 😃
I wondering the same thing, but for a different use. If anyone has ideas. I need a short Bush to plant next to the lawn that is neat the main road. People can be so disrespectful and pull off onto our yard to turn around. A bush that changed color in the fall would be nice.
Local nursery will for sure help since it all varies in the zones
