Say Goodbye to Laundry Room Chaos: DIY Laundry Basket Station
Doing laundry is already such a hassle, and tripping over those laundry baskets filled with clothes doesn't make it any more enjoyable. To make things a little easier, I transformed an old bookshelf into a DIY laundry basket station. Hello, organization!
We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.

My old boring bookshelf. I'm so glad I had this lying around and out of use. However, if you need to purchase one, this one on Amazon is similar in size.
1. Remove Shelves and Hardware
The first step in this laundry basket station project is to dismantle the bookshelf by removing its shelves and hardware. Create a clean canvas for your upcoming laundry organization masterpiece!
2. Measure & Mark the First Level
Take your laundry basket's height into consideration and leave about 3 inches from the top of the frame to allow for easy access. Mark this point on both sides of the frame, ensuring they are aligned and level with each other.
3. Measure & Mark the Second Level
Once you determine the height of your laundry basket, add an extra 3 inches for easy access. From the first mark made in the previous step, measure downward and repeat on the other side of the frame. Ensure that both markings are aligned and level with each other.
4. Glue Your Dowels
Cut four wood dowels to match the depth of your bookshelf frame. Using a hot glue gun or appropriate wood glue, attach the first wood dowel to the first-level markings on both sides of the frame.
Repeat the process and attach the remaining three wood dowels to the second-level markings on both sides of the frame.
Ensure that all the dowels are level with each other.
6. Paint Your Frame
If you want to add a personal touch, consider painting your frame. I opted for the beautiful 'Tahoe Blue' from BEHR paint to match our laundry room decor. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly overnight.
7. Insert Laundry Baskets
Now comes the satisfying part! Slide your laundry baskets, like these Sterilite ones, along the wood dowels inside the frame. They should hang snugly on these pieces, creating a neat and efficient DIY laundry basket station.
For added organization, label each bin accordingly.

Place your laundry and stain removal essentials on the top shelf, and if you have extra room at the bottom, utilize it for more baskets and storage.
This station is versatile and can be made taller to accommodate even more laundry baskets; all you need is a taller bookshelf.
