My friend is always finding discarded furniture and parts of furniture that she makes into something new to use or sell. She has a creative mind and can work wonders with her hands.
This time she made a table for her own personal use. Green living and recycling has become popular in this century, but years ago during the depression and before that in the pioneer era, people learned to work with their hands and make do with what they had. If they wanted something they often made it from raw materials or old parts. So the idea of not wasting is not new. Can you envision this table from an old stand, folding cabinet doors, and a little paint?
First, she sanded down and repainted this old stand.
Then she sanded and repainted two folding cabinet doors. She added some support underneath, also.
Here you can see the support she added to the bottom of the table surface. The surprise was the beautiful decoration she put on the top. This was a personal favorite of hers, since the table was for her own use. A quick Modge Podge application and the decor was complete.
It was simple, easy and a quick fix with just a little imagination. For the person willing to work with their hands, any stand and discarded flat surface can find practical use.
