Stepping Stones
Stepping stones, been there, done that, right?! Well I just wanted to share my spin on them. I had ordered some pottery through the mail and when I received it it was in a zillion pieces. The company gladly replaced it but I was left with all these beautiful shards and just couldn’t ditch them. Hence, my version of stepping stones.
These stones are pretty heavy duty. You could certainly make them any size you want.
I started by putting down some cardboard to protect my garage floor.
Next I used some scrap two by fours and made my frames. You could use cake pans, shoe boxes or anything your imagination could come up with.
I placed a piece of plastic under my frame so that when the concrete dried it wouldn’t stick to the cardboard. This isn’t necessary because if it does stick, it’s just the bottom.
I gathered my shards of pottery and was careful handling them as there were some sharp pieces.
Next step was to follow the directions on the Quikrete bag. Which is really just mixing water with your powdered concrete. I used an old five gallon bucket and a short piece of pole to mix with.
Poor your concrete into the frame and smooth it out using a paint stick or putty knife.
Next I placed my pieces randomly on top of the concrete and pressed it in a bit.
I considered doing a design but since it is “Quikrete” I needed to work somewhat quickly.
I let it dry overnight and then popped the frame off.
I’m not exactly sure which garden I’m putting them in yet. If I was feeling ambitious I would do about 4 more and make a path. We will see 🤔

another tip:
You can also make a use of your old/used cooking oil to brush the bottom and side of the mold.
