My husband absolutely blew me away with this project. We usually do them together but this was all him. For a long time him and I have been wanting an old radio but they were out of our price range. We were at a local store one day and they were having a parking lot sale and there was this Dusty Old Radio Show in the back of a trailer. We bought it for I believe $5 best $5 we've ever spent. None of the mechanisms or anything were working in them so we had to construct a plan. This was a long project but so well worth it.
Here's a picture of the shell out of the old radio. The only thing that was still in it was the record player.
As you can see a lot of the old mechanisms were still in there but none of them were working. So we needed a way to replace them to make it functioning again. As luck would have it on one of my thrift store runs I found a modern style record player with tape player and CD player so my husband modified the entire thing. He even made a space on the side for a tape player! I will show you a few of the pictures of the process.
On the left is where the old record player was rusted out on the right is the new record player that he was ready to install. He had to rewire the entire thing and modify it for the CD player the tape player and the radio.
As you can see he used fresh wood and made custom cuts to fit the pieces of the newer record player and radio!
Before the top of the record player would open separately but we wanted it to open up together so he made it one piece by attaching latches on them.
As you can see on the side there is where the new tape player is. I have a ton of old tapes from when I was younger I can't wait to pop in there!
Here's the finished product of the outside! After weeks of rewiring patching all of the wormholes and painting plus adding new material to the speaker area this bad boy was ready to go! It was a labor of love well worth it. We now have a beautiful updated piece of history and I could not be more happy. There's something about the sound of a record playing that is so exciting! All of the paint that was used to paint this piece was literally throwback paint from the Home Depot clearance rack. You can find some amazing deals on paint so every time you're in there just roll by and you can get a whole gallon sometimes for $7.
Here is a picture of the inside all stained and pretty! We kept it as original color as we could inside!! I hope you enjoy this wonderful project my husband completed please check us out on Sierra Stars furniture & Gifts on Facebook please and give us a like if you please!
