This will probably be the shortest post of my life, but I wanted to share this cool effect with everyone. :)

We begin with this tiny, polka-dotted little step stool — a solid wood yard sale find! Unfortunately I didn’t photograph my steps because I didn’t think it would turn out so cute!

In a nutshell, I

*painted the stool white

*laid a stencil on top

*sprayed the top with gray/silver spray paint and let dry

*removed the stencil and sprayed a very light coating of white spray paint

It’s difficult to see the effect in the picture, but the little stool has the appearance of soft velvet.

Here’s another view.

It turned out so cute that I’m anxious to try the effect on different pieces. Maybe some burgundy for my bathroom? :)

Suggested materials:
  • Rust-Oleum “American Accents” 2x spray paint and primer in white and gray   (WalMart)
