How to Create a Faux, No-Sew Roman Shade
by

Having no discernible talent or patience for sewing this time of year, I chose the no-sew route for my kitchen's window shade and decorated it for Christmas! These are the highlights, but you can find more info on source materials and tips for how to avoid some common mistakes on my blog.
I have always liked the idea of a striped shade in the kitchen. It took a lot longer than I ever expected to find the right fabric, but once I gathered my supplies, it was time to get to work!
I have always liked the idea of a striped shade in the kitchen. It took a lot longer than I ever expected to find the right fabric, but once I gathered my supplies, it was time to get to work!
First, I measured out the fabric with extra length on the sides for hem tape. It's important to work on a flat surface!
A good quality pair of scissors and my favorite hem tape makes this project go smoother.
Here's a closeup of the window shade, pinned to create the faux Roman shade folds. Up close, you can see a few of the pins, which can be darkened with a Sharpie. From far away, you can't tell at all. For more pics and details, see my blog post and link below.
