We all love roses and propagating them is not only fun but easy as can be. Air Layering is a way to get bigger roses faster than with cuttings. If I can do this so can you!
Complete list of supplies for this is on the blog but basically you need an empty plastic water bottle, potting medium, rooting hormone, ties, sharp knife, aluminum foil.
Slit open the plastic bottle and fill with your moisture retentive potting medium. I prefer coconut coir mixed with some potting soil or finished compost.
Scrape outer green layer from your rose cane. Choose one that is disease free and growing like mad. (for more info see blog post linked)
Treat scraped area with rooting hormone then wrap plastic bottle filled with soil around make sure it is snug. I used pantyhose strips to tie mine up. Some use zip ties or even duct tape.
A few weeks later you should see roots. I wrapped this one back up and let the roots grow longer and stronger which took another 4 weeks.
More roses for everyone.
