DIY Mini Diamond Pinata
Aren’t mini piñata’s the absolute cutest ever? Or am I weird for thinking that? Maybe both… Anyway, I’v recently been seeing them all over the place. I decided to make a diamond shaped one and love how it turned out. Oh, and did I mention that you can make one out of cardboard?! Yes. Cardboard. So that old box you have sitting around taking up space in the garbage can, give it a second life as a pretty little piñata! And who say’s you need to plan an event or organize a party to make one? I think I might fill it and give it to one of my sisters (or make three more, fill them all, and give each of my sisters one or I might be in trouble!). It was SO EASY to make too! And to make it even easier for you, I included a free printable template so you can make one (or 5) for yourself! Yay!
First step is to make all your cuts! Use the free printable template (found on my blog from the link below) to make the front and back diamond shaped pieces. Then cut strips 2 inches wide and long enough to cover the length of the sides of the front and back pieces. You can trim them to fit as needed.
After everything is cut out, curl the side pieces so they are easier to fold around the corners of the front and back pieces.
Now you get to put the pinata together! I just hot glued all my pieces together, but you could also tape them if you prefer! Make sure to leave an opening on the top to stuff it full of goodies...
Use this handy guide to cut the paper fringe for the next step! I used a blue tissue paper, and a glittery white tissue paper for my pinata. Use whatever colors you would like!
Starting from the bottom of your pinata form, glue strips of the tissue paper until you have fully covered the area you are working on. Make sure to fluff it as you go!
It should look like this when you are done with the sides. Trim the edges as needed for a nice clean edge.
Use the same technique for the front and back.
And that's it! Such an easy and quick way to make a party pinata, gift, or even something to spruce up the craft room!
