I love a good thrift store upcycle project, and when we recently updated our dining room to reflect our cottage farmhouse style I was looking for things to add some of that "fixer upper" style. I found these goodies at the thrift store and turned them into a vintage farmhouse style wall sconce!
Using RustOleum Chalkboard paint I sprayed the entire tray and one candle holder with a couple of light coat, so that the entire tray was black and set it aside to allow it to dry.
After it was completely dry, I added a light coat of RustOleum Universal spray paint in a hammered silver finish. You could still see a hint of the black showing through.
After that was thorough dry, I switched to using a can of brush on chalkboard paint and randomly brushed it on over the silver and working with it until I got a finish that reminded me a bit of aged pewter.
After the tray and candle holder was completely dry I used an angle bracket to attach them together.
Finally, using hot glue I used a saw tooth type hook on the back of the tray so it could easily and securely hung on the wall.
I now have it hung on the gallery wall of our farmhouse style dining room We remodeled our dining room during a challenge that allowed us $100 and only 4 weeks to complete, so this thrift store upcycle project fit the budget at only $5.50. I already had the paint on hand!
I made this for decor purposes only and don't recommend ever lighting the candle! The paint is not heatproof, and using hot glue for hold can be unpredictable!
