We have been working on the mud room for awhile now and even though it's a tiny room, there are so many different projects to do! Here I will share how we build a custom closet door to match the other rustic barn-like doors in our house.
Buy a man a new tool and he won't complain when you ask him to build things. :) Will’s grandfather had some extra tongue and groove boards lying around, and building with these was so easy – we didn’t even have to glue them!  We just pushed the boards together, then screwed some support boards on the back-side of the door in the shape of a "Z".
Then Will trimmed one end to get it uniformly the right length for our door frame.  Since the closet houses our heater we needed to add a vent for air flow.  Will used a circular saw and rigid oscillating cutting tool to do that.  Then Will used a router to make an inset border for the vent grate to fit in, and I made some trim to cover the grate edges.
Of course Will wanted to add a personal touch and the grate for the vent is a piece of scrap titanium from work that has had fancy key chains cut out of it.
We bought the hardware online at House of Antiques and it worked out well.
Add some sanding, paint, lots of time fitting it just right, and of course - some simple country trim, and we were done!

Overall this ended up being cheap and easy (if you have the tools). We did it over several weekends but it didn't actually take that much time. See the full blog post at my website.
