I'm becoming that cheap guy I always made fun of..! I bought a pallet of hardwood flooring CHEAP but needed to remove carpet from the two rooms to install it. I also had a rental that needed the carpet . So the rental got the carpet, and my Billiard room got the hardwwod . First time I've installed hardwood, really happy with the results..
Moving the old carpet out.. 400 sq ft.

Looks nice. I love hardwood (the real stuff, rather than laminate) - tough, easy to clean, can be stained, no wear patterns, looks classy, can be refinished several times if necessary. It visually adds width or length to a room. Surprisingly, I have found it is no more expensive that a good quality wall-to-wall which shows wear patterns after a couple of years, and is a dust trap. I like area rugs with hardwood - they can be rotated, and sent out for professional cleaning if necessary.
