once the sheetrock and painting was done it was time to do the shelves...
1-4'x8' sheet of melamine cut into 3 -16" planks (guys at Home depot did that for us)....9-15" brackets,6-10" brackets...(each set of 2 brackets can support 200lbs)..also in the corners of the pantry we cut 2"x4" into more support that is screwed into the wall....
I had reused the shelving from the oak buffet (will further reuse the bottom buffet, -watch for that) and I had an 8'- 10" wide shelving board already....
1/2 is devoted to food
2"x4" ripped in half and measured to cut for inside corner support....predrill each piece to prevent wood from splitting
use a level to make sure each piece is leveled and measured out how high each shelf will be adding 1" for shelf width..we used 2 1/2" wood screws to attach all brackets into studs.
insure each shelf is also level....drill in corners to wood brackets and screw in with 1-1/2" wood screws ...also each shelf has 3 metal brackets attached to studs in the wall...attach on the underside with small wood screws the bracket to the shelf as well.
We placed the 1st shelf 24" up from floor to have room for extra large items and dog food tote
attaching the 3 precut melamine shelves..each of these shelves is 16"wide x 8'...
1st bottom shelf went in pretty hard....all other shelves is done in 2 pieces each...measure carefully so both cut pieces line up perfectly to rest on center metal bracket.
once all sleves are in I painted everything inside again
the other 1/2 of the pantry is devoted to dishes, mixing bowls, paper goods, small electrical appliances etc..
we were able to clear out 5 various sizes of cabinets and put all in here along with dog food bin and 5 gal food storage buckets
Suggested materials:
  • 4'x8' sheet melamine   (home depot)
  • Metal shelf brackets   (lowes)
