When our baby girl got to big for her crib we knew we wanted to transform it into something we could still see and use around the house. My daughter LOVES our family dogs, so we decided to break it down and convert it to something they could use. What did we make? A pretty fur baby gate!
Step 1- disassemble the crib into individual pieces. Store all of the side racks (because you can DIY them into another project ) except one of the ends. Using a hacksaw, cut the short legs off the bottom of the side rail.
Step 2- Using an electric screwdriver, screw two sets of hinges onto one side of the rack. Space the hinges out so that one is near the top of the rack and one is near the bottom.
Step 3- screw other side of hinge to door frame. If you ever decide to remove the doggy gate, a simple swipe of wood putty will fill the small holes. Most door frames are white and our crib was also white. It fits perfectly and looks like it was custom made for the space!
Step 4 - add hook. We chose a hook and eye so it would be easy for our kids to latch and unlatch. Don't forget to hook it taut so your 's don't mysteriously unlatch it when you aren't looking!
BRAVO! Your done. This is such an easy project for ANY DIY'er! And the finished look is very professional. Post a pic in the comments if you decide to make one yourself!
