Spool Snowman

I love using unconventional materials to make craft projects, in this case my friend saw these on the local Marketplace sale page and they were right up the street from me. She said Shelly I know you can make something with these and she sent me a few pictures and this is what I came up with. All items I had on hand! The spools were only $5 for all 4 of them. So this is going to be an easy fun project that maybe some of you will do. Next time you see the spools you'll know what you can make with them.
materials you'll need for this project:
Wood
Hardware that can be used for eyes
Spray Paint black and orange
White Chalk paint
Chairs legs or spindles
Ribbon for hat
Whole saw 3"
Canning jar lids
Screws
Nail gun
Saw
Tape measure

begin by spray painting your spool top black, a square that is 16"x12" and the brim which is a 2x2"x 24" piece of wood.
After they are all dry you will dry brush on the white over the spool top, I left the hat black.
next you'll need to attach the nose so I used the whole saw that was 3" and it fit right over the center hole, I then nailed this down I didn't paint it I like it just wood but you could paint it if you wanted.
Next I cut a chair leg to the length I wanted.
I then painted the chair leg orange and where the hole saw hole was I used a screw and attached my nose to the middle. I nailed the hat on and screwed the caning jar lids in the center to make a mouth,. I had some old hardware drawer pulls I used for the eyes and finally added some ribbon to the hat and a bow.
What do you think? Here are the snowmen I did as you can see I still need to add some ribbon to the hats.
Here is the finished snowman it's rustic, artistic, and distressed . I love the way he came out. It was a fun fast Sunday afternoon project! Since I used items from around the house you could to giving each one a unique different face!
