Make Your Own Stocking Name Tags

After decorating for Christmas, my daughter was very concerned about how to know which stocking was hers. She insisted that the stockings needed name tags, so a craft was born.

No more stocking confusion!

I wanted a chalkboard look, so I painted ornament blanks in flat black chalk paint. You can also use ornaments that are already painted with chalkboard paint.

I used chalk markers to draw out the initials for our names. Hand lettering looks best when the down strokes are thicker. So I drew out the letters and added extra lines that I colored in.

I used the chalk markers and stamps to add holly leaves and berries to each name tag.

Then I added more details in blue.

Once the chalk marker ink dried, I decided to add a different style to the other side. These have a faux calligraphy feel. Once again, I made my down strokes thicker.

Then I used a gold chalk marker to add fun details.

When the chalk marker ink was dry, I added loops of baker's twine so that we could hang the stocking name tags.

Here's the other side.

The name tags are just looped around the stocking hanger. They can be switched out each year as needed when my daughter decides that she has a new favorite color.

This year, no one will have to guess which stocking is theirs.

These also make fun ornaments or gift tags.
