My husband and son are hunters and have antlers they would like to display. I don't love the look of traditional antler mounts so I was looking to find a way to mount them that I wouldn't mind displaying too. This is what I came up with...

Material List:

  • Poly-fil
  • Fabric
  • Antlers
  • Fabric scissors
  • Fabric glue
  • Decorative board
  • Drill
  • Bolt, nut & washer
  • Hammer
  • Upholstery racks
  • Jute

First we drilled a hole in the box and in the antler skull.

I cut a piece of poly-fil larger than I thought I would need but it ended up being perfect.

I wrapped the poly-fil around the antlers to make sure I liked how it looked and had the amount of stuffing I wanted. Then i used fabric glue to hold the end to the back of the mount.

I used a bolt, nut and washer to make sure the antlers were secure to the box.

Once the antlers were wrapped and securely attached to the box I used a piece of paper (8.5x11) as a template for my fabric. I used small black upholstery tacks to hold the fabric in place, starting at the top of the mount.

Here is a close up of the tacks and how it looked at that point.

That is the look I was going for originally but after I had the tacks done, I didn't care for the end result. So I glued jute cord around each antler and the base.

Here's a front view...I love how it turned out!

Here's a slightly different angle on a white wall. I'd say it fits linto a farmhouse style very nicely.

Hey, okay so I’m new to this whole DIY stuff but came up with an idea and interested in what you think or what others think about it?

Okay so I bought 5 deer antlers (whole antlers minus the head, like the one you did) and thought it would be kinda funky and interesting to paint them as a whole either different vibrant colors or maybe just one color in different shades??? Idk just curious what everyone thinks?? I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
