Hutch & Server hardware?
I’ve had these pieces for many years but the hardware (see pic #1 & #2) has always been an issue for me. I hate it & it’s very painful if I knock into it.
I recently (too late to return) bought the hardware in pic #3 but I don’t think it suits the pieces & it’s too big for the server.
What kind of hardware would you suggest? I would prefer if the projection was low.
Thanks!
Wendy

A single bar. Try Home Depot, and online Hobby Lobby. Both have many choices. With all of the fancy wire, and flowers I would go with a simple straight bar.
A very simple handle with a color/finish similar to the grid/grate in the doors would look fine and also not draw too much attention. This would let the designs on the hutch take full attention along with the citems displayed inside the glass doors. I tried to copy a handle from a website but it wouldn't "paste" here. Here's a link to many varieties of handles.

I think just a very simple know would suit your purpose - those are a bit ornate and feel like a bit "too much".
I totally agree something simple would be my choice. If you choose the right material you could even paint it to match so it doesn't distract from the lovely piece of furniture.
Personally, I like the original hardware and my just change the color. If you want to change it, head to your local home improvement store for some ideas. You can usually return what you buy if you don't like it - as long as it's unused.
Hi Wendy, I have to say that I love the original hardware as well. You could easily change the colour of it though and give it a new look. There is a product called Rub N Buff and it comes in a wide variety of colours. You just rub it on and it will completely change the look of the original hardware. It is really inexpensive and you can get it at places like Walmart and Amazon. Here are a few things I did with it years ago and they have held up beautifully... https://www.recreateddesigns.com/2015/01/silvery-easiness/
I also like the hardware. The scrolling and design really fits this piece. A good cleaning and fresh coat of paint would make a huge difference.
To clean hardware:
1. Get a crock pot (cheap at Goodwill!)
2. Add hardware
3. Cover with water
4. Add 1/4 cup liquid laundry detergent
5. “Cook” on middle setting overnight
To paint it:

Hello Wendy,
I rather like the handles, but you could use Ceramic or Wooden Knobs maybe!
I like #3. It will grow on you and disagree, it id nor too big. A suggestion might be to change the color if you don't care for it, maybe black?
I like the original hardware, Take it off clean it and spray paint it the color of the grill. Or I would go with a single bar that you can purchase at Lowes, Home Depot or Amazon. DLawless has some beautiful hardware and you might want to check out the website.
Hi Wendy. I like the original hardware. It goes so well with the ornate design on side panels. I really don't like the hardware in pic 3. It does not go with the piece at all. Remove the original hardware and clean it well. Once clean you could spray paint them with color of your choice. Good luck Wendy.
Hi! When I redid my desk, I realized simpler hardware didn't go with its style. I cleaned the handles and then spray painted them silver. If you really hate them, go with a smooth finish, low profile knob or handle. Good luck and stay safe!

I like #3. I would spray paint the the grid color, black or charcoal
I would opt for something that is smaller and not ornate. Try glass knobs.
you can buy a few different knobs or pulls at HOme depot and try them out then keep your receipt and return those you don't like
I think something like this might work for you: https://amzn.to/3iiSpKT
I think it’s simpler hand friendly knob would be advisable. Whether you want something extremely decorative like crystal glass or metal could be your option.
I would go with a for simplified piece of hardware like these here: https://amzn.to/3nPJCRq or here: https://amzn.to/3qpnQFZ
I would just do a clean rectangular pull that is about the same length. It'll be a simpler design and won't hurt if you knock into it.
I don't have an answer, just a compliment - what a pretty piece of furniture!
I too like #3 as the soft gold color looks the same as the narrow line in the wood.
If you did want to keep searching for new handles or knobs that you preferred though, I would suggest looking on eBay.
Here is a site that has hundreds of cabinet pulls. Good luck with your search
