Sometimes You Have to Dig Deep

We are putting up a new fence and discovered in the process that our neighbor had an old once upon a time cute rusty old shovel head hanging on the other side of the fence so I volunteered to bring it back to life for her. I forgot to take a pic before starting on the lettering but it was in bad shape.
I grabbed my acrylic paints and went to work on it, but it wasn't easy on the rusty pitted metal. I couldn't tell for sure what some of the left over painted areas were originally, so I had to use my imagination a bit.
I started by painting the easiest areas to figure out what the original possibly looked like.
A little more detail sponged and painted in. Not sure if there was a ladybug there before, but there is now! :)
I also winged it on the butterfly on top because I wasn't sure what had been there before, as well as sponging in the pink flowers because I had no clue what type they had been before. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome, I hope my neighbor is too! :)
