Easy Desk Build

I inexpensively created this little Pottery Barn inspired desk for my daughter after her nightstand wasn’t offering enough surface space. It only took me 1 day and turned out really cute!

My mom was getting rid of this cubby thing that I knew I could find a use for. It ended up being the perfect base for this desk build, especially when real wood items are so hard to find these days!

Then, off to the hardware so I went for the rest of the materials. I ended up using 2 poplar 2x2x3s for the other legs.

For the top I found something called a laminated panel which seemed to be a few boards glued together. It was $25 but saved me some work putting them together myself.

I cut all my pieces with my miter saw and started putting it together!

I screwed the laminated panel to the top of the cubby on 1 side and the Poplar 2x2s to the underneath of the other side. The top was slightly too deep so I clamped a straight edge to the top and ran my jigsaw down it.

I used some 1x3s to trim it out under the table top. This gave it a more finished and substantial look similar to my Pottery Barn inspiration.

Here’s what it looked like after I filled nail and screw holes as well as caulking and other unsightly seams.

Finally, I painted the desk the color “White Mocha” by Behr and it turned out really cute!
