Patriotic Straw Wreath

I believe that we should be patriotic every day of the year. So, while this post might be 20 days late, it can also be seasonal.
I traced a plate onto the bottom of a sturdy box and cut the circle.
I traced around a cottage cheese lid and then cut out the center markings.
I cute the center out of the lid and used the circle shape to make the circle stronger.

NOTE: You can just do this with double cardboard glued together or a sturdier circle.
"Graft" the cut at the top with a piece of tape.
Paint it either red, white or blue. Let dry or the glue won't stick.
Using the hot glue, I glued the straws to the circle, leaving a 1/2" overlay to not see the raw edge of the carboard. You can't really paint it as it's "holy".
I sadly didn't buy enough of two colors so I had to finish it with the red/white/blue ones. These straws are so cheap, buy more than you think you will need so this doesn't happen to you. I would have been okay but I made these first and ran out.
When I saw I was out of two kinds, I finished with the ones I had. I then made a big faux net ribbon and embellished it with a faux gem I had. I was going to put a wooden USA in the middle, but the people who made it didn't realize they have put the sticker on the side that I needed to paint, and it wouldn't come off.
So here is the finished product. I usually take a photo of my wreath from my door, but I now have one of those magnetic screen doors that close in the middle, and I can't get a good shot. N-JOY!!

NOTE: If you wanted to make this for other holidays, I have found dollar tree straws in Halloween, Christmas, etc.

So pretty! I love that you can make it seasonal depending on what straws you use :)

I agree. I think every day is Mothers and Fathers Day, Veterans Day, etc. My favorite colors are Americana so that gives you an indication!!
