Bird Cage Ornament
Here’s a sweet festive reminder for all us human birds that have been living in gilded cages for quite some time now.
Just guess what this ornament is made from…
A whisk.
To be more specific, a small whisk, a plastic container and a small pottery bird. And a skewer.
And its so easy to make. Cut a lipped piece of plastic disk such as the one pictured above. A crisp-tube lid like Pringles could also work, depending on the size of the whisk.
I sprayed each element gold from the outset but you could also stick everything first and then use spraypaint. This would prevent there being an annoying, unpainted blob of hot glue in the end.
I spray-painted the whisk.
And shortened skewer.
The skewer was stuck across the whisk with E6000. This creates less blobs than using the glue gun.
The disk was stuck to the bottom of the whisk with a glue gun because the surface was too uneven for the E6000. As mentioned, you could spray the join over at this stage to make it less visible.
The bird was stuck with hot glue. Be sure not to use too much.
The top of the whisk already has a nice little loop to attach a ribbon to.
And then hang. Aren’t they adorable!

Hi Thea this is lovely. We used to make egg cages out of whisks. Add some nest like material or moss to the bottom of the whisk add a decorated blown out egg or use any egg shape and paint and decorate as you will and then fit between the whisk wires into the nest. There are a lot of things to do with old whisks like weaving them to make a small hanging basket. :)

Cute. Love wire cage deco. Maybe a metal sealer jar disc for the bottom? At first glance that’s what I thought you used 😊. Happy crafting !!

I meant to ask this in my previous comment about the tree where these ornaments are hanging. Did you make it? If so, how? Would love to make one for my house after Christmas. It has a coastal look to me. Thanks.
