Easy DIY rustic Christmas ornaments that make the perfect gift! Personalize them for yourself or for your family/friends.

I bought the "wood slices" from Hobby Lobby in the unfinished wood section. You can easily find these online at Amazon, or pretty much any other craft store, as well. They even have some that are already on a string but I wanted to make the entire ornament myself. The wood beads are also from Hobby Lobby. I did not realize that they were not already pre-drilled when I bought them so I recommend buying wood beads with holes if you are going to complete this project. Now, just grab a pen/marker, craft twine, scissors, and any drill.

I started by choosing my wood slice and thinking of a saying to write on it. You could even paint a picture or really put whatever you want on it!

I recommend tracing your wood slice on a piece of paper first and then practicing what you are planning on writing to ensure that the entire saying fits on your ornament. This also allows you to choose word placement and make edits before you actually write on your ornament. When you are satisfied, write on your wood slice. Slow and steady!

This next part is where the drill comes in handy. Drill holes at the top of your ornament for where you will string the twine.

I had to make my own holes in the wood beads in order to put them on the twine. This was difficult but not impossible--but I still recommend trying to find wood beads that are already pre-drilled so you can skip this step!

Once your holes are drilled, put everything together!

And there you go! You have yourself inexpensive personalized ornaments. The possibilities are literally endless!!

Did you Sharpie on the messages, or woodburn? My daughter has been doing something very similar, and she uses a Woodburning pen to "etch" the wood slices... but the pen is a bit difficult to control sometimes, as it gets warm. If you DO woodburn, do you have a pen that you prefer and would you mind sharing what make/model it is? I'd love to get her a good one! :) Beautiful designs you have - truly!!
