Christmas Paper Wreaths

I hate throwing away paper and had collected some brown packaging paper and stacks of glossy magazines. So I had no problems finding a source of paper for this project, which cost me nothing except for my time.
Magazine pleated paper wreath
I ripped pages from glossy magazines (you could utilise junk mail). I then cut the pages in half so that I had a number of equal size strips of paper. It is important that all the strips are the same width.

1. pleat each strip as if making a fan

2. Find the centre of each pleated section

3. Thread onto wire (a wire coat hanger would be perfect)

Form the circle by bending the wire creating a hook or loop at the top to hang it. Add a simple bow to finish.
Side by side paper wreaths
Spurred on by one success I created a second wreath using strips of packaging paper, but this time I didn't pleat it, instead I gathered it into softer folds and threaded onto wire, spiralling the sections as I went.

I cut a paper bow to complete the wreath

Finished and displayed above my mantel. Look out for more posts about the recycled bottles soon.

These are so cool! I love the idea of using waste paper!

That wreath is ever so attractive. What a smart idea. Can smaller ones be made to use them instead of bows on medium sized gift packages?

I don't see why not! Use something like tissue paper, even tissues and finer wire or if they are really small you could just use a needle and thread.
