Ice Skates Christmas Wreath

Today I’m sharing a new Christmas Wreath with and Ice Skate Snowy theme.
Welcome to our home! I have to tell you it was POURING rain yesterday when I was taking pictures so I couldn’t even stand back and get a picture of our house or more of the door but the inside is pretty cozy so I thought you might enjoy a sneak peek of our tree. I’ll share more of it next week.
You have to see how this wreath started out……are you ready?? I found this at a thrift store for $3.95 last year….. but I knew it had great potential.
Isn’t she a beauty??? Someone went crazy with the gold sparkly garland!! So I removed all that and underneath were some good pinecone bones.

I shopped my house and found some things I knew would be perfect. I had the silver ornaments, pine cones, wire ribbon with green trees on it, pulled out my fabric stash for the skates and I made some snowballs the other day for my mantel (Come back Friday) and so I made a few more. So this cost me $6 to make.

I took my white craft paint and with a brush I painted all the pinecone tips or edges with white paint and then dusted them with some coarse sea salt to look like snow.
For the snowballs I used Styrofoam balls from the Dollar Tree and rolled them in a mix of half mod podge and half white craft paint and then rolled them in Epsom salts.
I love how they look like actual snow balls too. I tied on my extra pinecones to the wreath and hot glued on the snowballs.
For the Ice Skates I drew a pattern onto construction paper and cut them out. You don’t have to be an artist when you do a Diy project. Just go for it and let your creativity go.

I then cut out some thick drop cloth fabric and sewed with black stitching so you could see the outlines.
I left an opening in the top and then lightly stuffed them and then sewed the tops closed. As you can see I wasn’t going for perfection. I want them to have that raw edge looks to them.

Then I applied a layer of mod podge to the skate blades and then poured the silver glitter over them.
I buy these packs of glitter at the Dollar Tree and they have come in so handy as I love to add glitter to everything…lol.

I used twine and some pom poms (also in a bag from the Dollar Tree) and made ties for the skates.
Then I took my wired ribbon and tied a pretty bow and hung my skates on the wreath.

I love the way it turned out and it was fun being creative on a rainy cloudy day. Wreath
