Per tradition we, as a family, carve pumpkins every year and make a huge mess!! It is worth it to let the kids get down and dirty in pumpkin slim just so we can makes some seeds? Yes. But…What if you could still get creative without all the mess?

I’m here to tell you that you most definitely can and the best thing is that this doesn’t have to be just a Halloween thing! You could do this to make a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape as well using any color of pretty pumpkin you can get your hands on!

Step 1: Buy a pumpkin. Big or small. Think about what you want to write or draw on it first so you get a shape that will best allow you to fit whatever you are drawing on it. For this one, I knew I wanted to attempt a tall funky Halloween house so I tried to pick one with a flatter front side.

Step 2: Paint the pumpkin with spray paint. It doesn’t need to be black! You could get a pretty green Cinderella pumpkin and then paint it white and get a completely different look!! You can paint the entire thing or just one side.

Step 3: You can draw on your design or just start scraping and see what happens!

Step 4: Gather your scraping tool of choice. I used a little multi tool which made this super effortless, but you could also use something like a metal skewer stick tip, a pair of scissors or a fork.

Step 5: Scrape away!! You are literally just taking the paint off! If you want a little more effect you can dig into the pumpkin too taking some slivers of the actual pumpkin out.

When you are happy with your design, you are done! It really is that simple!

I have a reel on this on my Instagram account @brooke.casa.del.sol and a video on YouTube.

Happy Decorating!
