DIY Chalkboard Coasters

This little DIY idea came to me one day when I needed a coaster and couldn't find any around the house. I had just refinished a nightstand and I realized my husband keeps a glass of water next to the bed every night. I looked around and found a mason jar lid that I figured would work temporarily.
Since I had several loose mason jar lids that weren't being used, I decided to just give them a little makeover rather than buying new coasters. First, I separated the lids from the rings and painted them with black chalkboard paint.
After the chalkboard paint had dried, I used a numbered stencil that I had gotten at a DIY/home decor conference that I attended this summer. Instead of regular chalk, that would obviously rub off I used a permanent chalk marker that I still had from my DIY spice rack project.
When I put the lids back into the rings I used a little drop of hot glue to secure them in place.
I think they're much cuter than anything I would've bought at the store!

Aren't you worried about them scratching wooden surfaces? Wouldn't felt or cork on the bottoms be best?
